 Submerged Oxygenator Pond Plants
Hornwort is a perfect addition to any Koi pond as it not only adds beneficial oxygen to your Koi pond, but it also provides a place for small fry to hide.
These plants are productive in the watergarden due to the fact that they compete with algae for the nutrients in the water and effectively reduce the amount of algae that will be able to grow helping to keep the water clear. You don't need to fertilize them because you want them to take advantage of the excess nutrients (nitrates) already present in your pond water.

 Parrot feather is a perennial plant. As the water warms in the spring, parrot feather begins to flourish. Most plants flower in the spring; however, some also flower in the fall. Flowers of this plant are very small and white in color.
No pond is complete unless it contains Parrots feather. It will add oxygen to the water and help fight off algae growth by consuming all of the excess nutrients. They also provide a spawning area for the fish and providing a hiding spot for baby fry.
Almost all plants of this species are female, in fact there are no male plants found outside of South America. Parrot feather reproduces asexually. New plants grow from fragments of already rooted plants. |
